Summat Enchanted Evening, from 5pm

After all the intensity of the day programme, kick back and enjoy yourself at ‘Summat Enchanted Evening’ – at Notre Dame College. At 5pm, join our (4-5 mins) procession to the College, led by world music drumming collective Honeydrum, and fire jugglers. Free tea and cake will be served – and enjoy music, poetry and drama from the Harehills-based ‘Women Asylum Seekers Together’ choir.

Our evening show starts at 6pm, featuring… Accomplished Leeds-based writer Michelle Scally-Clarke, in her role as Summat poet-in-residence, will perform freshly-written poetry that encapsulates the day. ‘Michelle’s performances literally speak for themselves and her literature performs beautifully. On the page or on the stage, she is a complete wordoligist’ (Benjamin Zephaniah)…

Luke Concannon, formerly of Nizlopi (of No.1 hit ‘The JCB Song’ fame), makes joyous, emotive, spiritual music. A singer-songwriter, traveller and activist – with a passion to build ‘the world which we know is possible now’ – he’ll be performing songs gathered whilst recently hitch-hiking from the UK to Palestine…

Aya Danto is a proud refugee musician from the dispossessed Tuareg tribe, originally from Ghat in Libya. With his electrifying ‘droneblues’ guitar picking and rhythmic singing, he evokes memories of the singing, drumming and circling camel-riders of his desert childhood. Danto was part of world-acclaimed band Tinariwen…

More from Honeydrum… And new Leeds band The Loups.

Food will be served (from £2 a head) by… Burgoo, a Yorkshire-based, foodie company that loves community feasting and specialises in alternative dining experiences… Merkato – authentic Ethiopian vegetarian food (Merrion Mini Market LS1; merkatoleeds@yahoo.co.uk)… And Nurture, St George’s Crypt’s newest social enterprise – combining catering, horticulture and training (brand new café at Oxford Place LS1).

Please bring your own drinks in (homemade is especially welcome!), plus corkscrews or whatever else you need!
