Once upon a time, some Leeds people pulled together the Together for Peace festivals: using creativity to enable diverse folk to explore important issues. Different events sprung up around the city – exploring justice issues, environmental challenges, diversity and cohesion, faith, activism, politics, economics, and much more…
But typically, we all get stuck in our grooves. So the environmentalists went to the environmental events, the faith folk went to the faith events, the business people went to the business events… and so on.
So the Leeds Summat aims to mix people up – by getting a uniquely wide range of people in one space together, and giving them the opportunity to connect together, hear and debate new ideas, and (if they want) get more involved in the life of the city and region.
Massive thanks to all those who worked with us to make the first Summat in 2009 such a huge success. (The Summat 2009 report is downloadable at www.t4p.org.uk/summatreport*, and there’s a photo gallery at www.t4p.org.uk/summatpics.)
Once upon a time, a very long time ago, people gathered in town squares and under village oaks to learn, debate, eat, create, make decisions, laugh – and sometimes mourn. That time is coming back: be part of it. We hope to see you at the Leeds Summat 2011.
